My first ever major venture into cream products of any sort was with theBalm’s How Bout Them Apples? Lip and Cheek Cream Palette. I still have that palette kicking around somewhere, and it’s been well loved. This new Tarte Kiss & Blush Cream Cheek & Lip Palette, however, is a step up from theBalm palette in a few ways.
First off- packaging. This palette is part of the Rainforest of the Sea collection (which I have reviewed a bunch of products from previously), so obviously it has the gorgeous, fun packaging that the rest of the collection boasts. Also, we all know how much of a sucker I am for anything gold, so there’s that too.
Semi-sidenote: there is also a double-ended brush (sold separately) that goes with this palette. It works perfectly, especially for travel, being that it has the blush brush on one end and the lip brush on the other. I didn’t even own a lip brush up to this point, so I’m glad to have this one in my collection now! The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea brushes are pretty nice, too. They’re not the absolute softest brushes I own, but they work really well and are so pretty to look at.
There are two things I really love about this cream cheek and lip palette, besides the gorgeous packaging.
1) The colors are very pigmented, but also easy to blend. I find the best way to apply them is to tap my brush very lightly into the cream color, and then again tap the color very lightly onto my cheeks. I avoid buffing the blush in if I’m wearing any sort of skin base, because I don’t want my foundation to move around. On the note of pigmentation- on the lips, these apply like a regular lipstick… not at all sheer like you may have been imagining.
2) This palette has a really great color range. There is pretty much every shade of blush I would ever need in this (though, let’s be real- of course I’m not giving up any of my other 5 million blushes, hahaha)- a baby pink, a nude, a peachy pink, a deep berry and a straight up peach shade. There’s also a pretty cream highlight in the center of the palette that goes perfectly with any look!
These are super creamy and hydrating, thanks to the Rainforest of the Sea antioxidant complex, and they give you a very radiant, healthy, “lit from within” glow. These also last all day on my cheeks no problem.
The only downside to this palette- and to any sort of lip palette ever- is that it’s highly likely you’re NOT going to be hauling around an entire lip palette in your bag to reapply throughout the day. Because of that, I rarely ever use multi-functional palettes like these on my lips. With that being said, I still think this is worth every penny ($42 worth of pennies, in case you were wondering) purely for use as a cream cheek palette.
What are your thoughts on this palette?
