If I’m being honest, I thought the whole Google Home/Amazon Echo Plus thing was totally lame and something I’d never use before I actually got one myself. Turns out, the Echo Plus is one of the coolest tech gadgets I’ve ever owned and I (as well my as my fiancé and our roommate) have been using it pretty much every single day since it arrived!
If you have no idea what the Amazon Echo Plus even is, here is a quick blurb from Amazon themselves:
Echo Plus is a hands-free speaker you control with your voice, with a built-in smart home hub. It connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, ask questions, make calls, provide information, news, sports scores, weather, and more—instantly. All you have to do is ask.
Echo Plus has 360° room-filling sound, and can hear you from across the room from any direction. It is always getting smarter as Alexa continues to add additional features. With a built-in smart hub and simple setup for compatible connected devices, starting your smart home or integrating into your existing system is now easier than ever.
The speakers on this thing are pretty dang amazing. It knocks any other speaker I’ve had out of the park! I’m listening to music basically 100% of the time now, I love it!
It’s pretty genius, if you ask me. One of the coolest features, in my opinion, is the built-in smart home hub. It connects with so many different smart home devices, from the coffee machine (fresh coffee made before you even get out of bed, anyone?) to door locks (this is my anxious self’s dream- I’ll never worry about whether I’ve locked the doors or not again!) to light bulbs. Yes, you can even ask Alexa (the name of the lady inside Echo Plus, haha) to turn off the lights for you!
This is probably one of my favorite features, because I’m constantly turning the lights off in our house. I swear no one knows how to shut off a light when they leave a room, haha. You can also use Alexa to dim the lights and change the color of them if you have the Phillips Hue bulbs. How cool is that?! I want to fill my house with the colorful bulbs now!
Tonight, from 8:30pm – 9:30pm YOUR time (wherever you are in the world), you can take part in Earth Hour by switching everything off “in solidarity with global efforts to secure nature and our home.” This event is all about getting conversations started about the interconnectivity of climate change with biodiversity and people. You can find tons of different #Connect2Earth stories here.
Will you be participating in Earth Hour this evening? I’ll definitely be asking Alexa to turn my lights out!
