It’s been two years now since I first fell in love with Sun Bum products. I tried the brand for the first time via a POPSUGAR Must Have Box (which are amazing, by the way) a couple of summers ago, and I’ve repurchased a few times since then. I recently got the opportunity to try more than just the SPF 30 sunscreen and Cool Down lotion that I’d been buying, so I figured I’d do a post and let you know what I thought of everything- just in time for summer!
Let’s start with my trusty ol’ favorite, Sun Bum SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion. As I mentioned, this was one of the first Sun Bum products I tried. It comes in both a travel size (which isn’t actually that small, it’s the one pictured below) and a larger size. I took the travel size to Mexico with me and used the entire thing up before the week was over. I got burnt ONCE (which is miraculous for me considering how easy I burn), and that was only because I had left my sunscreen on the boat during a booze cruise and we had stopped at an island for lunch for a couple hours. Other than that, though, the SPF 30 totally had me covered.
For those of you who prefer a spray sunscreen, the Sun Bum SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray is a great choice. Like Sun Bum’s other sunscreens, it has broad spectrum SPF with UVA and UVB protection (a MUST when it comes to sunscreen), is water resistant for up to 80 minutes (if you’re in and out of the water, you should be reapplying more frequently than that anyways) and contains Vitamin E, which leaves your skin feeling nice and hydrated.
Sun burns happen from time to time, no matter how often you reapply your sunscreen. Sometimes you accidentally miss a spot, sometimes you didn’t reapply soon enough, sometimes you’ve just been in the sun for too long… regardless of how it happened, it happened, and your skin is huuuuurting. Unlike the aloe vera gels you can find at the grocery store that feel super gross and sticky on your skin, the Sun Bum Cool Down aloe lotion is creamy, hydrating and soothing, all in one. It helps to heal your skin when it has got too much sun, and the added moisture in turn helps your burn to keep from peeling and your tan to last longer.
Now for a product that I just can’t get into- the Sun Bum Sunscreen SPF 15 Lip Balm. I wanted to love this SO much, since I’m not only a bit of a lip balm junkie, but I also LOVE coconut anything, as you all already know. Unfortunately, the scent and flavor is not nearly as coconutty as I anticipated and is just more sweet than anything. Too sweet for me to be able to wear, which is too bad because the actual lip balm is super nice!
Lastly, we have two hair products from Sun Bum. The first is the Sun Bum Beach Formula Sea Spray, which is a UV-protecting matte hairstyling spray. While most of my experiences with salt sprays in the past haven’t been that great, I LOVE this one. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling sticky, crunchy or dry, but instead just adds a bit of texture and helps bring my natural waves out a bit more. I spray this all over my hair when I get out of the shower and let it dry without brushing it, and I end up with a super nice, wavy texture to my hair. Love it!
The Sun Bum Beach Formula Shine On spray is just one of those products that everyone needs. It is a super lightweight UV-protecting oil treatment that leaves your hair shiny, silky and feeling healthy. It’s formulated with argan oil, sweet almond oil and sea botanicals and contains no dyes, so it’s safe to use on blonde hair without it altering your color tone.
You may have noticed that I didn’t mention scent on any of these products (with the exception of the overly sweet smelling lip balm), and that’s because I just wanted to have one collective scent review at the end: Sun Bum products smell like summer. That deliciously tropical coconut sunscreen smell- the one where you walk up to a pool and know people are wearing sunscreen because you can smell it. UGH, I love that smell so much, it’s kind of ridiculous. Someone find me a perfume of that scent, haha.
If you want to try Sun Bum products for yourself (you definitely should!), you can grab them at ULTA or Shoppers Drug Mart.
