A few weeks ago, Cole had four days off work (unheard of at this time of year as he’s a canoe guide and is always SO busy in the summer), so we decided to take advantage of that time off and head on a little roadtrip around Vancouver Island. We ended up staying 2 out of 4 nights at Sombrio Beach, which is part of the Juan De Fuca Marine Trail and is just under two hours outside of Victoria.
It required a pretty solid downhill walk to get to the beach that you can then camp on, but it was totally worth it. The sunsets there were incredible and Duke loved getting to swim and play (aka dig) in the sand all day long.
We also brought a canoe with us (and bringing that back UP the hill was basically hell, but props to Cole for picking up my slack, hahaha) and made an unsuccessful fishing attempt. Duke is a total wildcard in a canoe and he tried to jump out pretty much the entire boat ride, meaning there was little fishing to be had AND we managed to break both fishing rods in that one attempt anyways. We made a valid effort though!
Also, the cherry on top of this already beautiful place? We saw at least two orcas (also known as killer whales) and a humpback whale from our camping spot on the beach! So amazing.
Did you go on any outdoorsy adventures this summer?
