It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned anything about our Southeast Asia trip, and honestly, it’s just because I was so worn out from traveling! That sounds ridiculous, but I think anyone who has traveled for a semi-lengthy period of time can relate to how absolutely exhausting traveling can be. By the time our month was up and we were home, I just wanted to relax and get back into a normal routine. It’s been a little over a month since we returned home now, and I’m finally ready to get back to sharing some of the highlights of our trip- starting with a super fun tour we did while in Phuket!
Buffalo Tours is very well known for their tours all across Asia- they offer everything from day trips (like we did), to cross-country tours, to cruises. The Phi Phi Island Tour by Speedboat is one of their newest additions that left from Phuket and spent the whole day taking us from different must-see locations amongst the beautiful Phi Phi Islands in Thailand. It was definitely one of the best days on our whole trip and we would totally do it again!
The day started with us being picked up from our hotel in a private taxi. I think most people were picked up by a minibus, but our resort was quite far out of the city, so they sent us a taxi (which was SO appreciated!). We got dropped off at the port and met our guide for the day, Moo Moo. Now, having worked in the outdoor/guiding industry for a few years myself, I can safely say that humor is a universal language and a true selling point when it comes to experiences like this. Our guide Moo Moo (who liked to refer to himself as Sexy Moo Moo), was easily one of the most hilarious people we met on our trip and everyone in our group loved him. He definitely made the experience that much better with all of his jokes!
We toured around a few different places that didn’t require us to actually get off the boat, like Viking Cave and back side of an island where we got to see a whole bunch of monkeys! This was SO cool, because we had yet to see any monkeys on our trip prior to this! There were monkeys scattered all over the rock face and they sat there and checked our boat out while we cruised past. Can you spot the baby monkeys in the picture below? They were sooo cute.
The highlight of this tour was, without a doubt, going snorkelling. I’ve snorkelled in both New Zealand and Mexico before, and while they’re both beautiful, they didn’t even begin to compare to snorkelling here! The water was so clear and so warm. The spot they picked for us to snorkel in was teeming with sea life (we even saw a sea snake! Spooky, but so cool) and the guides were awesome at pointing out some cool things we would’ve otherwise missed (like real live Nemos in an anemone). I would go snorkelling here again in a heartbeat.
Cole and I watched The Beach right before our trip, because we felt that it was our duty as first-time travellers to Thailand (and because a little young Leo never hurt anyone!), haha. That worked out perfectly, because part of this tour was going to check out the famous beach in The Beach, Maya Beach. I can definitely see why they chose this location for the movie- it’s incredible. My only complaint is that it was absolutely PACKED with tourists, but hey- we were there doing the exact same thing, so I can’t blame anyone, haha. Also, this was the time in which Cole and I realized my butt was so burnt from snorkelling (I even wore SPF 50!) that it may just fall off at any moment, haha. #thailand1chelsea0
We went around the back side of Ko Phi Phi Don to the Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort for lunch (which was included in the tour cost). There was a ton to eat and it was honestly some of the best food we had on our whole trip. We got to relax at the beach for a while which was great, because it was so beautiful and calm (not inundated with tourists like the other side of Ko Phi Phi Don is).
We wrapped the day up with a stop Ko Rang Yai, a beautiful, private little island with nothing more than a couple of beach bars and a bunch of chairs to soak up some sun in. It was the perfect ending to an amazing day.
Between the excellent hotel pickup service (a blessing when you’re in a foreign country!), hilarious and helpful tour guides, delicious food and clearly incredible experience, I cannot recommend checking out Buffalo Tours enough- especially for this particular trip! We will definitely be trying out some more of their tours on our next Asia trip.
