Cole and I have been all about being more health-conscious over the last couple of months. Cooking and eating healthy have definitely become big interests of ours and it’s something we enjoy doing together. I’m actually hoping to start sharing a little more of that part of our life here and there, if you guys are interested! We have taken a particular interest in trying out some of the organic, natural products (we love simple ingredients!) that are available on the market, so when we scoped out the organic drinks section at Safeway, we got just a little bit excited to try some new products.
We had both heard of kombucha but neither of us had tried it. A couple we know makes their own (however you go about doing that… haha) which I think is super cool, but I don’t think either of us are QUITE that handy in the kitchen just yet, so I wanted to play it safe with something made by the experts and try out the O Organics Kombucha that we found at Safeway. There were so many delicious sounding flavors to choose from (Ginger Lemon, Mango Mint, Guava, Pomegranate Hibiscus Lime, Cranberry Peach and Raspberry Black Currant)- I went with Guava and Cole chose Mango Mint.
They are surprisingly good, though somewhat of an acquired taste. Kombucha definitely has an unexpected taste if you never tried it- it’s a fermented tea, so I assumed it was going to taste something like an iced tea, but it is just it’s whole own thing. It’s a bit fizzy and kind of vinegary. That sounds super weird, but after the initial surprise, it definitely grew on me. Cole (who haaaaates vinegar- he won’t come anywhere near me if I eat salt and vinegar chips, hahaha) even liked it. The health benefits of kombucha (each bottle contains more than 2 billion probiotic organisms, as well as live kombucha cultures, which supports digestion) totally make it worth trying, and the O Organics Kombucha flavors are on point (I definitely just said that, haha).
O Organics Kombucha is made with USDA organic ingredients and is available exclusively at Safeway stores (at up to $1 less than other brands!). I’m definitely grabbing a couple other flavors on my next trip now that I know I like it! I’m thinking Pomegranate Hibiscus Lime and Cranberry Peach next. ;)
Have you tried kombucha before?

Wow– This stuff looks super interesting! I’ve been wanting to move to a more health-conscious eating routine (but sometimes you just need that pop! A rare craving haha)
I will have to see if I can find it in stores, I don’t think there’s a safeway near where I live…unfortunately.
Chelsea says
Haha I feel ya! We definitely still indulge in the not so good stuff, in moderation though :) And darn! If you do venture past one sometime, definitely give it a try :)

Chelsea says
Did you like it? I don’t think I’d care for plain kombucha, but these different flavors make it pretty darn good!

This is definitely worth a try…especially if it’s healthier for you!

I loved komucha and decided to try to make my own because it was so expensive. So I bought a kit with a “scoby starter” in it. Can’t even drink the store bought stuff anymore. after watching the process and touching the “scoby”, (bleh wretch wretch) it just makes me gag now when I try to drink it. Keep buying the store bought. Don’t even think about making your own unless you have a very strong stomach for slimy fermented things! Lol!
Chelsea says
Hahahah yeah I’m not sure how cut out I’d be for making it myself ;)

I haven’t seen these before – I would love to try the Ginger Lemon! They all sound good! oh to have one right now!!
