Over the last year, my skincare routine has become very important to me. I used to have no interest in skincare until I started using products that worked and I started actually seeing results. I can’t remember the last time I did a skincare routine post, and being that I’m nearly empty on most of these products, I figured it was a good time to go over what I’ve been using the past few months and touch base on what’s worked and what I haven’t noticed much from.
I totally blanked on including my cleansers in these images (oops), but we’ll start there anyways. I always double cleanse if I’m wearing makeup because I feel like there is nothing that really removes ALL of your makeup better than using an oil cleanser and following with a regular cleanser.
The oil cleanser I’ve been using lately is the Bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt Gel-to-Oil Cleanser. You all know I’m a huuuuge fan of oil cleansers, so I will be the first to admit that this definitely isn’t the best of the best. It’s fine, but the gel formula doesn’t remove makeup as easily as a straight up oil formula. I wouldn’t repurchase this, but I will finish it before moving onto another one.
I have been switching between two regular cleansers, just because I keep one at the sink and one in the shower. One is the Beautycounter Soothing Face Wash, which I have reviewed previously but it seems that it’s now discontinued. Too bad, because I really like this cleanser. It leaves my skin feeling clean but not dried out (I think the Rejuvenating Face Cleanser may be super similar though). The other is the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel, which is also a really nice cleanser. Again, it leaves my skin feeling super clean but without the dry, tight feeling. If I ever really felt committed to a regular face wash (which I don’t, haha), I’d repurchase this one.
In the case of not actually washing my face (because hey, it happens some nights), I’ll remove any makeup or just clean my skin a bit with the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution. This stuff is the boooooomb, I can’t stress that enough. It’s the ultimate makeup remover if you have ANY issues with sensitivity ever- it removes your makeup SO easily and SO gently. I have gone through a ton of these over the last year or so, and I will repurchase this a million times over!
It’s rare I will shell out to repurchase something when I have so many different things in my skincare stash to review, but I saw an immediate difference in my skin when I ran out of and stopped using Pixi Glow Tonic. I am OBSESSED with this stuff. It’s an exfoliating toner with 5% glycolic acid and it really smooths the texture of my skin and keeps any breakouts under control.
When I stopped using this for a month or so, I could feel a bit of roughness come back to my skin, I noticed that I was getting more milia and I was getting zits more frequently. As soon as I bought a giant bottle of this at Gen Beauty when I was in Toronto and started using it again, the texture of my skin became much smoother and I stopped getting new milia and zits popping up. I swear by this stuff. It also comes in a “to go” pre-saturated cotton pad version which I’m going to try next.
After I have washed my face and let the Pixi Glow Tonic dry down a bit, a put a little bit of the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence in my hands and pat it into my skin. To be honest, I don’t fully understand the purpose of an essence other than to help whatever is applied after it to absorb better, but I have this in my stash so I use it, haha. It comes super highly rated and recommended, so it must be doing something good for me ;)
The serum I’ve been using for the past couple of months is Vichy Liftactiv Serum 10 Supreme. It’s supposed to do a whole whack of things, like firm and lift and soften lines and whatnot. I can’t say I’ve notice any extreme difference in my skin since using it, but do feel like the expression lines in my forehead look the slightest bit softer. Other than that, I don’t have much to say about this serum. I don’t think it’s something I’d repurchase.
I got this Tibetan Goji Berry Eye Serum in a subscription box forever ago, and recently found it in my stash so I decided to finish it. It contains retinol and I apply it just around the outer corner of my eyes where smile lines form. I don’t have smile lines yet, and I’m hoping that by using anti-aging products like these, I’ll be able to stave them off a little longer, haha.
For an eye cream, I’ve been using the Nourish Organic Eye Cream that I got in an Ipsy bag forever ago. I really like the Nourish Organic skincare products, but I’m not sure how much I love this one. It’s nice and hydrating with it’s formulation of avocado and argan oil, but I can only use it at night time because it takes forever to absorb and sits on top of the skin for quite a while. Because of this, it doesn’t play well with makeup on top. I wouldn’t repurchase this product because of that, unfortunately.
I have been using the same facial oil for SO long. It’s the Pixi Skintreats Rose Oil Blend and after months of use, it’s finally on it’s very last legs. I think I’ll have maybe two more days out of this one, and I’ve got mixed feelings about finishing it. It’s hydrating and smells AMAZING (so, so, soooo luxurious smelling, I love it so much), but I feel like there are many other facial oils that’ll do more for me than just hydrate my skin and smell good, you know? Regardless, I could definitely see me buying this one again sometime in future because I really have enjoyed using it these past few months.
Last but not least isa product that I’m on my third jar of. The derma e Hydrating Night Creme was the first ever skincare product that I REALLY fell in love with (see my original review here, but don’t laugh at my lack of photography skillz from back then, haha) and actually was probably what first sparked my interest in skincare. It’s super, super hydrating and my skin feels so nice and soft when I wake up in the morning after using this. The scent is also pretty much the best scent of all time, though I still don’t know what it even is after the last year and a half of on and off use of this product, haha. I will definitely repurchase this again someday!
