Aaaand I’m back with more from the NARS x Steven Klein Holiday Collection! This time it’s with the Killer Heels Lipstick Coffret, which is a set of five different mini NARS lipsticks. The packaging of these features some more stunning photography by Steven Klein (I’m sorry, I totally forgot to take a picture of the pretty box they came in, but you can see it on the Sephora site!), and the range of shades in this set are perfectly suited for this time of year.
This lipstick set is a Sephora exclusive, I believe, and it retails for $49USD/$60CAD. None of the shades in this set are new (though a couple were previously limited edition), and one thing to note is that these lipsticks are not the NARS Audacious formula, in case that’s what you were expecting. There are a couple sheers and a couple semi-mattes, and I’ve noted each of them in the descriptions for each shade below. They are all super comfortable to wear, don’t dry my lips out (and on that note, are quite moisturizing), and don’t really have a fragrance to them.
Little Darling – this is a sheer light beige nude, or “true nude”, and it looks terrible on me, haha. Being as pale as I am, I really can’t pull off true nude shades, no matter how gorgeous they are in the lipstick tube.
Mayflower – this is a sheer raspberry shade that has a noticeable amount of shimmer to it. It did feel a bit gritty upon application, but I’m also not usually a shimmer person at all, so I’m not used to wearing shades like this and am not really sure what is to be expected as far as “feel” goes.
Joyous Red – this is a semi-matte that shows up on me as a muted brick red with super subtle gold flecks throughout that don’t feel or show up nearly as glittery as Mayflower. It’s a great shade for when you want a bolder lip color without it being anything too intense.
Jungle Red – this is a semi-matte classic red that would suit all skin tones. I love this shade and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing it a ton during the holidays!
Fire Down Below – this is a semi-matte “pure blood red with no blue or orange,” as described by NARS, but I definitely think that name needs mention of “dark” in there somewhere, because it’s by far the darkest of the bunch. My swatch below didn’t do this one justice- it shows up quite dark on my lips and I love love loooove this lipstick for fall.
Overall, I think this set is great value- particularly for newbies to the NARS brand. I have small lips, so I actually find mini lipsticks much easier to get a precise application with. Another thing I love about this set is that the colors are pretty versatile, and with a couple minor exceptions (ie. the true nude on my super pale skin, haha), almost all of these lipsticks would work for tons of different skin tones. I also love the variety for price that you get with value sets like this.
