All matte everything is still going strong in the beauty world, and as much as I like it on other people, this is often a super hard trend for me follow with my dry skin. Through lots of trial and error with different products, I have not only been able to find matte lipsticks that work for me, but I’ve also been able to find matte finish foundations that work for me as well!
The NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint was recently released, and I was dying to try it as soon as I heard about it. Because it’s called a skin tint, I definitely expected it to be a super light coverage BB cream type of thing. Turns out, it’s actually more of a medium but still very natural coverage when applied with a brush, and it can be sheered out nicely when applied with a damp Beauty Blender. It has a soft-matte finish and it stays put on my skin all day long.
I get quite a lot of redness on my nose for some reason, so I usually have to apply a concealer over top of my foundation basically all over my nose after applying foundation. This is the ONE foundation I don’t have to do that with, for whatever reason, and I’m absolutely loving that about it.
To top it all off, the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint has vitamins C, E and SPF 30 in it to help protect your skin against environmental stress damage.
You’re probably now wondering how this fares with my dry skin. I have heard combo/oily skinned people rave about this foundation, and I’ve heard dry skinned people have mixed reviews. If I am lazy with my application then yes, it will start to cake up a bit in dry areas. I find this easy to fix by going in to those specific spots with a damp Beauty Blender and just making sure that the dry area has been fully blended out and the foundation is no longer clinging. As you can see from the photos below, it really does blend out on my skin super nicely!
I am pretty pleased with the fair skin shade range for the NARS Matte Velvet Skin Tint. They have a few different shades with varying undertones, which is great, because I often find that pale foundations can be too cool toned for my warm-neutral skin tone. I use the shade Finland which has yellow undertones.
All in all, I can safely say that even with my dry skin, I love the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint. If you also have dry skin and want to try it but are scared it won’t work, go try it out at Sephora first! I recommend doing this anytime you buy a new foundation.
Have you tried this yet?

I have learned the hard way that I have to stay away from the matte foundations because of my dry skin. It’s just not flattering for me! But this sounds promising!

I’m generally the same way, but this one does work for me. My dry areas tend to be around the edges of my forehead and in between my brows, but I’m able to blend this out enough that it doesn’t cling. I recommend seeing if you can get a sample from Sephora first if you’re wanting to try it but scared it won’t work out! :)

For a skin tint it’s amazing that it provides medium coverage! I was expecting sheer-light as well. It sounds great though- especially because it has SPF and vitamins to help your skin. This would be good in the summer for sure :)

Yeah, I really thought it was going to have like no coverage, haha. And yes, LOVE that it has SPF in it because as much as I preach sunscreen and wear it all summer long, I am totally guilty of forgetting to wear it all the time the rest of the year! I think it’s going to be especially amazing in summer when my skin is less dry as well. :)

Your skin looks amazing! It leaves such a beautiful finish! I haven’t tried many of Nars’ products for some strange reason, so maybe this will be a good product to start with!

I love the finish of NARS foundations – but unfortunately I find they never last too long on my oily skin :-( This one blends so nicely on your skin – love your photography!

I have tried Nars compact and blush, love them, but never really tried their foundation. Your makeup looks flawless so definitely going to consider for next time.

Good to know that this works on dry skin as well – I have heard mixed reviews about it! Looks gorgeous on you!
