As many a makeup lover already knows, Kat Von D recently released a bunch of new/updated complexion products. Between a combo of getting an Influenster Voxbox and some PR samples, I ended up with a couple of her new brushes, concealers, foundation and setting powder, so obviously I wanted to put it all to the test for you guys! I don’t really own a lot of KVD, so I hadn’t really formed an opinion on the brand and it’s products prior to this, but I’ve definitely got an opinion now. ;)
I’m not a big concealer brush girl- I prefer to blend out my concealers with a damp Beauty Blender because my under eye area is pretty dry and I need that extra bit of moisture to get everything blended out before it dries. With that being said, I’ve really been enjoying using the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Brush for adding the extra bit of coverage I need in one specific spot under my eyes where my dark circles are the worst. A few taps of this super precise brush and that area is blended in without losing any of the coverage I need. So good!
The Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder Brush is quite possibly the god of all brushes. I have felt some soft, soft brushes in my time, but I don’t think anything compares to this fluffy bit of heaven. Seriously, this brush is INSANELY soft, it’s borderline weird. I have happily replaced my giant IT Cosmetics powder brush that I previously swore by, because this is just that much better. I can’t recommend going to have a feel of this brush in Sephora enough… you’ll definitely want one.
It’s only been in the past few months that I’ve finally realized that us dry-skinned folk can wear powder too. I have always avoided it because I figured all it would do is accentuate any already dry areas, but after having experimented with a bunch of different powders over the last while, I’ve totally changed my mind. The trick is to find the world’s most finely milled powders and then go from there.
The Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder is a winner for dry-skinned me. It’s completely translucent and doesn’t show up chalky or powdery on the skin at all, is super finely milled, is incredibly lightweight and basically just blurs my skin into perfection (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration, but I do REALLY like this powder). It’s especially great under my eyes- powders often will get cakey in my fine lines, but this one stays put all day (and makes my makeup stay put, too). Two thumbs up for this bad boy!
I really wanted to love the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Cremes, but I just can’t. You know I’m always on the hunt for the next best thing when it comes to concealer, but for my needs, this one isn’t it. Don’t get me wrong, it has great coverage and amazing staying power, but it’s just a little bit too thick and dry for my already dry under eyes. :(
I’ve tried applying it with both a brush and a damp Beauty Blender, but it still looks a little bit crepey on my under eye area regardless. I’m super sad about it, because the coverage and staying power is SO good and I’ve heard of so many people loving this concealer. I still recommend trying it as long as your under eyes aren’t dry like mine.
And lastly we have the star of the Lock-It line, the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation. I was worried this may not work for me based on my results with the Lock-It Concealer Creme, but thankfully I was wrong! This full coverage foundation is super long-wearing and plays very nicely with both oily and dry skin, thanks to natural polymers that absorb oil and added emollients that hydrate. This doesn’t get cakey on any dry areas of my face and blends out flawlessly with my Beauty Blender.
My opinion on Kat Von D products now? Love love love. The brand skimps on nothing- all of their products are super pigmented, full coverage and stay all day. If there are any KVD products you recommend that I absolutely must try, let me know!
