It’s that time of the month where I share my Ipsy January review with you! I am trying to do these every month as I will probably be subscribed to this forever (I love it- I am always at LEAST 75% happy with what I’ve got in my bag which is totally acceptable because it only costs $10 a month (plus $4.95 shipping for Canadians), so how can I complain?). I didn’t post my Ipsy review for December because I was in New Zealand, but if you’re curious as to what I got in my November Ipsy bag, you can check that out here.
Here’s the rundown on how it works: when you sign up, you take a quiz and tell them pretty specifically all of the beauty things you love and hate, so their selection for you is pretty on point. I change up my love/hates every now and then so I don’t keep getting a bunch of the same type of product and it seems to work quite well for me! They send out a lot of different brands, some that I’ve heard of, some that I’ve never heard of and some that I already am a huge fan of. I’m always into trying new brands and products, and also am always into getting products that I already love, so it’s nearly always a win-win for me. Now let’s see what I got!
The first item in my bag is the Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream. It’s 0.5fl oz and it’s key ingredients are avocado oil, argan oil and shea butter. My eye area is generally very dry and pretty sensitive, so I am super careful about what products I put there. I tried this one out and had no problems with sensitivity and the area is feeling quite smooth and moisturized. Definitely liking this! The full size of this is actually a renewing + cooling product which I’m interested to try and will probably purchase once this sample runs out, especially since it’s only $19.99 which I definitely think would be worth it. I am debating purchasing the face cream as well!
Next up is a 2.3g sample of Bella Pierre Shimmer Powder. Normally, I would’ve been not so happy about a product like this. I’m not into loose shadows and I’m also not into a huge amount of shimmer. On top of that, the shade I received is called Exite and is a shimmery white with a very slight purple reflection. The only reason I’m not hating on this is because I use a MAC shadow that is pretty much exactly like this but not loose for the inner corners of my eyes- and while that MAC shadow will probably last me twenty more years because I use barely any each time, this shimmer powder will be a perfectly good backup. The same 2.3g size retails for $3.99 on Amazon. I will say, I do really like that this is hypoallergenic- definite plus for me!
I received a Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm in my bag, and initially wasn’t too excited about this. It seemed like a boring product to get, but I gave it a try anyways. Turns out, I love it (big surprise, I love everything Ipsy sends me, haha). It’s fairly thick on the lips- not in a gross way but in a super protecting from the wind and moisturizing way- and a teeny bit sticky , but the protective factor it has given me in this cold air has been AMAZING (and the pretty shine it gives doesn’t hurt either!). I actually didn’t even notice until I started writing this, but my lips are so smooth right now which is so unusual for this time of year. About a week ago, before I started using this, they were chapped basically the second I got back from New Zealand, and that was even with me slathering them with chapstick every five minutes! I’m in love with this stuff. It says Mojito but I don’t think it really has a scent or flavor, but I love it. Love love love it. I would and will absolutely repurchase this. It’s also paraben free. More points for this balm! I received a 0.20oz balm and a full-sized balm is 0.35oz, which retails for $12 on Amazon.
I was pretty excited about getting a Pacifica product in my Ipsy bag, because I’ve heard good things about Pacifica and have been wanting to try some things from them myself. I was sent the Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in Treasure, which is a velvety medium brown shade. It’s gorgeous. It goes on so smooth, the color is really pretty and I love that it’s formulated without a ton of yucky chemicals. They’re also gluten-free, cruelty-free AND vegan. I think that’s pretty cool, too! It doesn’t look like the single eyeshadow that I got is available online, but the specific shade is included in the Solar Complete Color Mineral Palette (which I want to buy- it has the prettiest blush shade and the highlighters look gorgeous!).
Lastly, I got an Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow brush. I already have a couple of these so it’s probably the least exciting product in my bag, but it is quite soft and seems to be higher quality than other brushes I have, so I’ll definitely trade out one of the brushes I was using previously for this one. Also, it’s pink (obviously a plus). This brush retails for $10 on Amazon.
Overall, I am once again happy with my Ipsy bag. While I wouldn’t consider this one of the more exciting bags, I did get a lot of practical things that will work well in my daily routine. I also got to discover a couple of new products that I already know I’ll be repurchasing! If you want to try out Ipsy for yourself, go here to sign up and fill out the quiz to get started. It’s totally worth it!
If you’re already a subscriber, did you post an Ipsy January review? I’d love to see or hear about what you got!
