I didn’t intend to be so late on this, but then we ended up moving a week earlier than expected and everything got pushed to the back burner. So, here we are, super late with my Ipsy bag for May, haha. Oh well! Here’s a quick rundown on how Ipsy works: when you sign up, you take a quiz and tell them pretty specifically all of the beauty things you love and hate, so their selection for you is generally pretty on point. They send out a lot of different brands- some new, some that I already love- so it’s nearly always a win-win for me.
This month was a semi so-so bag for me. I got mostly things that are very practical and I’ll get a lot of use out of, so it was a win there. They just weren’t the most exciting products ever, so that was the not-win, haha. Here’s what I got and what I thought:
Alterna Haircare Caviar CC Cream – While I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, this hair product has a high rating on Sephora, Ulta and MakeupAlley, so I definitely have high hopes! It’s supposed to be a 10 benefits in 1 styling product, and I’m definitely all for minimal styling so I’m excited to try this.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil (plus 2 bonus Revolution High-Color Lipgloss samples) – I was basically dying to the get IT Cosmetics CC Cream in my bag, but I ended up with this instead. I was disappointed because I’ve been wanting to try the CC Cream super bad, but this was also a super practical item that I pretty much needed in my makeup collection anyways, so I’m not too sad that I got this. It’s basically just a clear lipliner, which is the best idea ever because then I don’t have to have several colors for different lipstick shades. I haven’t tried it yet as I haven’t been wearing a whole lot of lipstick while moving, haha, but I love Urban Decay products so I imagine it’s great. With this lip pencil, I got two little samples of UD’s new lipgloss which I’ve also been really wanting to try (and in one of the colors I was wanting, as well), so that’s pretty exciting. The only frustrating thing is that it’s one of those samples that’s in a cardboard packet and is pretty impractical because I can’t carry it around with me in case I need to reapply, so basically I won’t get to try these glosses outside the comfort of my own home. Oh well, they were a bonus and at least they’ll help me decide whether I want to purchase the full sizes or not!
BellaPierre Cosmetics Waterproof Mineral Gel Eyeliner Pencil – I seriously suck for having not tried pretty much everything in my bag thus far, but I was moving, so I think that’s a pretty fair reason, haha. I’ve got a couple other BellaPierre products from Ipsy before- eyeshadows, I think- and I don’t know what it is, but there’s something I’m just not into about the brand. It’s not even that there’s anything wrong with their products, I think it’s just that I don’t like their logo, haha (#designerprobs). So anyways, I will probably try this eventually, specifically because it says it’s waterproof and I like to test out such product claims. I’ll get back to you on this one. ;)
Peter Lamas Detoxifying Citrus C Facial Cleanser – Another product I haven’t tried. It’s a blend of chamomile, coconut, alba bark, wheat protein, vitamin C and beta carotene. It’s 100% vegan, as well as paraben and sulfate-free. I’ve been super interested to try out some vitamin C skincare products because they’re all the rage lately, so I’m pretty happy about getting this in my bag. It’s a good sized sample as well!
Pixi By Petra Beauty Bronzer – I own so many bronzers, but they’re pretty much all matte (I have a thing for matte bronzer, haha). I was actually pretty excited about this one because it has a hint of shimmer in it, which I was lacking in my collection. I’ve been using this one a ton lately! It’s a great color for my fair skin and gives me a nice glow.
So while this wasn’t the most exciting Ipsy bag I’ve ever got, I did get quite a few practical items, and there was really only one thing I wasn’t that interested in (the eyeliner). I highly recommend signing up for Ipsy, I’ve been subscribed for a year next month with zero regrets, and while I did unsubscribe from Birchbox this month, Ipsy isn’t going anywhere for me! It’s $10 a month (+ $4.95 shipping for Canadians) and I think it’s totally worth it, and I look forward to getting it in the mail every month!
