You may or may not have noticed a bit of an absence around these parts lately. I have been posting a bit sporadically because I’ve been SO busy. What have I been busy doing? Cleaning up my LIFE. Seriously, though. I feel like every little nook and cranny of my house had become overwhelming with the clutter, excessiveness and disorganization. I have literally spent the past two weeks cleaning every. single. drawer and shelf and closet and storage bin and just absolutely everything and it feels SO good to finally have all of that done and for everything to have a place. I got rid of an insane amount of stuff, and with that went a whole ton of beauty products.
I’d been meaning to educate myself a bit more (ie. at all, haha) on ingredients in the products I was slathering all over myself everyday for the better part of a year now, and so with this full house cleaning came a lot of ingredient research and some shocking realizations of how bad some of the stuff I was using was. I gave away HUGE bags of body care, skincare and haircare products to friends and family, as well as donated a bunch, all because those products contained ingredients like formaldehyde releasers- things that literally release freaking formaldehyde (hello, highly carcinogenic!!), and here I was slathering them all over my hair and my body. No more, though! I am feeling SO passionate about this and eventually want to take the steps to cut down my makeup collection for the same reasons, but I need a little break from purging, haha.
Anyways, this huge push to purge indirectly came from winning a giveaway. I follow Green & Pure, a local and online green beauty boutique, on social media, and I found out about a contest they were having. All you had to do was take a photo of your favorite organic beauty products and then post it on Instagram with their hashtag and username, and the winner would get $400 to spend at Green & Pure. As luck would have it, I won and got to go on a huge shopping spree at Green & Pure! I ended up with a TON of stuff and plenty of motivation to finally educate myself on the ingredients in the products I was using, and so here we are. Expect to see a lot more green beauty on the blog from here on out, because it’s definitely become a new passion of mine!
I wanted to share my haul here and hopefully introduce you to some new green beauty products or brands that you may not have tried or heard of before. I haven’t had a chance to use everything yet, but pretty much all of the items I picked were based on rave reviews that I found on the internet. I do plan to do some individual reviews when I’ve given everything a good trial run, but until then, I just wanted to do a quick overview of everything!
First up, in the “random/other” section of my haul, I got a 100% pure organic lavender essential oil from Erbaviva. I own a bunch of Young Living essential oils already and use them often (I love essential oils, but it’s not really something I talk about on here- should I start?), but I had run out of lavender, so I was happy to stock up on another bottle! Lavender is amazing to diffuse and add to baths, or even use as a pillow spray.
I totally got sucked into trying the French Girl Rose Lip Polish basically just because it had rose in the name, haha. No regrets here though, because hooooly, this smells incredible. The scent is a mix of rose (light, fresh rose, not old lady heavy rose) and peppermint and it’s absolutely heavenly. The polish is a nice mix of grit and hydration all at once, so you get the best of both worlds! Loving this.
It’s funny, I hadn’t heard of Josh Rosebrook at all before starting this green journey, and now I feel like I’m seeing that name everywhere! For good reason, though, because the Josh Rosebrook line gets some seriously rave reviews. I picked up this Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator and am SO glad I did. It’s an aloe water and herbal moisturizing mist and it smells so herbally (yes, I made this word up) and delicious. It’s an instant boost of hydration and my skin immediately feels softer. I use this right after cleansing and before applying serums. I highly recommend this one already!
The Green & Pure founders are seriously SO kind and generous, because all I picked out from Tata Harper was the Resurfacing Mask (is there anything in the world that people rave more about? I don’t think so, so obviously I had to try it!), yet they packed my order full of extra Tata Harper goodies to try. I’m super excited to sample everything and am a little scared for my wallet when I need to go back to stock up, haha.
And the moment I know you’ve all been waiting for… makeup! I have tried products from both RMS Beauty and ILIA before, so I was extremely excited to add to my small but growing collection. From RMS Beauty, I picked up two Lip2cheeks (a multi-use lip and cheek product) in the shades Demure and Spell. I also have really been wanting to try their Eye Polishes, so I grabbed one in the shade Magnetic. These are sheer, metallic cream shadows and they are absolutely beautiful!
From ILIA, I decided to further explore my newfound love for glosses and chose two of their Lip Glosses in the shades Love Buzz and The Butterfly and I. I’m very impressed with the amount of pigmentation in these and they are extremely comfortable to wear. I definitely want more of these and of the ILIA Lipsticks, which I also love!
So that’s everything for my first ever green beauty haul! I’m so excited to continue down this road and explore some new-to-me brands and products that are not only gorgeous, but are also good for you. If you have any green beauty recommendations to start me off with, please let me know. Also, a HUGE thank you to Green & Pure for running this contest and being so ridiculously generous. Vancouverites, you can find them at Aberdeen Square, and everyone else, you can find them online at greenandpure.com!
