I don’t think I’ve ever done an empties post before (hence the #1 in the name, hahaha), but have had intentions of doing them SO many times. While it’s literally a pile of garbage for a post, I love reading people’s empties posts because when a product is empty, you KNOW that the review of the product is going to be solid. Anyways, here’s my first ever garbage post from stuff I’ve used up over the last few months!
Let’s start with haircare because there were some real goodies in here.
I got this sample in a beauty subscription of some sort forever ago and finally decided to get to work on it. While it doesn’t look like the hugest bottle, it lasted SO long, even with me using it nightly. It has a bit of a scent but it’s light and nothing bothersome. It was fine, but I didn’t find it really did anything specific for my hair.
TRESemmé conditioner is probably my most favorite drugstore conditioner in terms of super hydration, and this hair mask is basically that on steroids (with the added perk of it smelling AMAZING like coconut). I can’t get enough of this stuff. It leaves my hair so silky and it’s SO cheap!
Repurchase? Without a doubt!
Seriously, this stuff is the BEST. I had been using that meh Kérastase oil for so long that I’d come to expect nothing much out of hair oils, but the instant I finished that one and started using this sample of the Loma Nourishing Oil Treatment that my hairdresser gave me, my opinion totally changed! My hair would be so soft and silky and significantly less tangly the morning after I used this one and I love that it’s organic.
Repurchase? Definitely. Already in my Amazon cart!
I got this bad boy in my POPSUGAR Must Have box last month (which I can’t recommend enough, by the way) and used it up so fast. It’s sulfate, silicone and paraben free (I’ve started learning more about bad ingredients in beauty products lately and am loving it… I feel like such an educated consumer, haha)- woohoo! It also has a delicious, fresh scent to it. I didn’t find that this mask made my hair as tangle-free and silky as the TRESemmé mask did, but it worked quite well regardless.
Repurchase? Maybe. If all Briogeo products smell like this, I definitely want to try some more.
Man, I’ve really been going through the hair masks lately! Going blonde definitely took it’s toll on my ends, so I was trying to get as much moisture back into my hair as I could before I went back to brown (PS- my hair is brown now. Surprise!). Anywho, this mask came as a sample with an ULTA purchase I think, and it was quite nice. Made my hair temporarily feel nice and healthy, haha. I’d probably buy a tub of this over the Briogeo one, just because it’s like $10 cheaper for the same size and works equally as well.
Skincare, bath and body product time! I made a point of not including every shampoo and body wash I’ve ever used in here unless there was something very specific about it that I needed to share.
I don’t have the conditioner pictured here because I used it up long ago, but I just wanted to say that this duo kinda sucks, haha. Maybe if you have quite thin hair and like a very light shampoo and conditioner that will leave no weight on your hair then this could work for you, but if you’re someone who needs lots of hydration (like me) in your locks, you’re definitely not going to get it from these products- which is funny (not funny… annoying, haha), considering it’s called Moisturizing & Repairing. My hair would be so tangled and hard to brush through after using this!
Repurchase? Most certainly NOT.
Holy crap, this body wash smells SO GOOD. If you like chocolate, you will love this. It’s literally like rubbing soapy chocolate all over your body. Okay, maybe that description wasn’t the best, but chocolate lovers, you WILL rejoice upon smelling this.
Repurchase? No, because I have a lifetime supply of body wash, but it does smell incredible.
I’ve done a more in-depth review of this mask before (find that here), so I’ll keep it short and sweet: love this.
Repurchase? Yes. I’m already on my third bottle since discovering this! It will forever live in my shower.
This is a great cleanser for my fellow dry-skinned folk. It’s super gentle and gets all of my makeup off. It’s fragrance-free, hypoallergenic and formulated without sulfates, parabens and phtalates. I love you, Tarte.
Beautycounter Soothing Face Wash
I have done a full review on this face wash here. Long story short, it’s a nice face wash and I really enjoyed it, but it’s quite pricey for a basic cleanser.
Repurchase? No, simply because I think I can find a cleanser that works just as well for much less. Also, I don’t even think this face wash exists anymore, so there’s that.
I have used Julep’s Konjac Sponge before and really liked it, so I figured this one would be just as good. Turns out, they’re not all made equal. I guess there’s a difference between a charcoal konjac sponge (which is what the Julep one is- I’d definitely repurchase that one) and a regular konjac sponge- and I much prefer the charcoal. This one was kind of just wimpy and I feel like it didn’t do much to help exfoliate my face or anything. Meh. I have another charcoal konjac sponge from Wyld Skincare up for review next, so we’ll see if that one is any better!
Repurchase? Heck to the no.
Love these. They’re cheap, don’t burn my skin and take my makeup off- and that’s all I really ask for in a face wipe! More in-depth review here.
Repurchase? Yep. Already have.
For the record, I won these in a giveaway forever ago and finally got around to using them. Why anyone would pay more than $2 for a bag of cotton pads is beyond me. I mean, these were nice and soft and whatever, but I feel like my dollar store cotton pads work just as well.
Repurchase? No. It just seems silly. Someone please explain to me why these are so much better, haha.
Again, a full review can be found here. I do really like this moisturizer, but because it’s quite lightweight and I need a heavier moisturizer for my dry skin more often than not, I doubt I’d repurchase. Oh, and this also seems to have been done away with and/or reformulated, just like the cleanser I previously reviewed. I think It may be the Rejuvenating Day Cream now…
What the heck, who is giving this scrub 4 stars on Sephora.com? Certainly not me. The “micro-pearls” (are these microbeads? I have no idea) in this are awful. They do absolutely nothing for exfoliating my skin! I’m glad this was just a sample and not a full size.
This wasn’t a large enough sample for me to see any crazy results with this serum, because it only lasted me about a week and a half, but I can tell you that this didn’t play nice with my other skincare products. As soon as I added this into my routine, my sunscreen started pilling when I tried to apply it. No thanks.
I have used a Vichy serum before (the Idealia Life Serum) and really liked it, but I’m not sure how I feel about this one. It promises all sorts of anti-aging hooha and I’m not sure I can attest to much of it. I mean, my skin was looking pretty darn nice for the couple of months I was using it, so I’ll give it that much. I have heard a couple other bloggers I know rave about this though, so keep that in mind. I’d like to note that upon first applying, this smells very strongly of alcohol which is a huge turn-off for me. It doesn’t linger on your face at all, but in general I don’t really want a large whiff of alcohol right before I rub something all over my face, haha.
I reviewed this micellar water like a year ago or something (see here) and I have not gone without using this literally DAILY since then. It is my ride or die. If there is any product EVER in the whole wide world that I would consider holy freaking grail, it’s this. It will be in every empties post I ever do. I have gone through a ridiculous amount of these and have zero regrets- it’s the best. Highly recommend to everyone ever.
Uuuuugh, I love this stuff so much that it actually pains me to not be using it right now. I’ve already done a full review on this (see here) and it’s the most luxurious, beautiful rose scented oil that gives me that bit of extra hydration that my skin so desperately needs. It doesn’t do anything drastic to my skin, but I really, really love it. It had really become such a relaxing, aromatherapeutic (is that even a word? If not, I’m pretty sure you get what I mean, haha) part of my evening skincare routine and I miss it. I have another bottle of this awaiting me in my stash, but I’m trying to get through some other oils at the moment so this one is on hold.
Repurchase? For sure.
I’ve reviewed this night cream twice now on the blog (most recently as part of my night-time skincare routine post, here) and for good reason- I love it. It’s extremely hydrating and the scent is amazing.
Repurchase? I want to say yes, but I probably won’t since I’ve gone through two jars of this and as much as I love it, I really want to try some new products.
I got this in a swap and am glad to have received it because I had been wanting to try the Sephora Collection face masks for quite a while! This was a nice sheet mask. I have yet to find a sheet mask (out of the tons that I’ve tried) that makes some sort of significant, noticeable difference other than my skin feeling generally nice right after use, but I do enjoy them for their relaxation/pampering factor.
Repurchase? Yeah probably, but I’d go for another “flavor” just to try out some other ones!
This mask confused me. When I see something that a) involves coconut and b) involves the words hydrate and restore, I assume that it’s going to be super soothing, moisturizing, hydrating, etc. Interestingly enough, the first 3-4 minutes of wear with this mask is quite irritating to the skin and I’m not sure why. It’s got a bit of a hot burn to it that eventually subsides and the duration of the mask-wearing feels fine, but it’s odd to me that it makes my skin react that way in the first place. I’m also not the only person to experience that, based on ULTA reviews. Just weird.
Repurchase? No. I love coconut, but not enough to voluntarily burn my face off.
I had been recommended this by a couple friends for it’s super calming scent and man, do I ever love it. It has definitely been my go-to for stress relieving bubble baths, but I’m now on the hunt for a replacement because this contains some ingredients that I am trying to cut out of my body/hair/skincare products (specifically BHT). If anyone has any super relaxing eucalyptus scented bubble bath recommendations, send them my way!
Repurchase? I want to, but I’m trying to be an educated consumer! Haha.
I bought this bag of epsom salts on a whim when I was placing an ULTA order one time, and they’re definitely back on my shopping list now that I’ve run out. A bag runs you five bucks and is a really nice addition to a bubble bath (can you tell I love taking baths?)!
Repurchase? For sure.
HUM Nutrition Supplements (Use code FC6E0 for $10 off your first order)
In the “other” section of things worth mentioning, I finished up two bottles of my HUM Nutrition supplements. I won a giveaway for a couple of these about a year ago, and have been repurchasing them ever since. The three I always have on hand are Red Carpet (for glowing skin and shiny hair), Uber Energy (for consistent energy) and Here Comes The Sun (a vitamin D3 booster).
I don’t 100% know if Red Carpet does anything crazy for me, but I totally swear by Uber Energy and Here Comes The Sun. I have been tired all the time since my high school days (and who knows why), and I find Uber Energy keeps me from having highs and lows of tiredness throughout the day. Here Comes The Sun in the fall and winter months is an absolute must-have for me because I’m very prone to seasonal depression, especially since we moved into a basement suite that doesn’t get nearly as much light as our old apartment did. These help me a LOT.
If you purchase your HUM Nutrition supplements using my code (FC6E0), I’ll get $10 off my next order and you’ll get $10 off your order, so it’s a win-win. These are available at Sephora as well, but I find purchasing through HUM directly is a much better deal as you get 25% off if you’re buying 3+ supplements, and there are also monthly plans that you can save $$ with as well if you’re not buying 3+ supplements at once. If you use HUM already, let me know your faves! I’m definitely open to trying some others.
Okay lastly, onto makeup!
Straight up, these WORK. LiLash gave me super long lashes in about a month (look at this Instagram post), it’s kind of insane. LiBrow also works but isn’t going to magically create hairs out of nowhere- so if you have NO eyebrow hairs in places that you want them, this isn’t going to do anything for you. If you have tiny little baby hairs that you want to be actual eyebrows, this will probably work for you. It definitely helped fill in some of the more sparse areas of my brows.
Repurchase? Yes to LiLash and maybe to LiBrow (only because I don’t know that LiBrow can do anything more for my brows at this point).
I love these little Fresh lip balms. They make my lips feel nice and soft (temporarily, of course, because I just have to have the world’s driest lips ALWAYS for some reason) and they’re cute.
Repurchase? Yup. I usually get one of the big sets every Christmas so I have a year-round supply, haha.
This one is supposed to do all sorts like plump your lips and reduce fine lines, but I find it to basically just be on par with the regular Fresh Sugar Lip Balms. It’s nice.
Repurchase? I’ll probably just stick to the regular Fresh lip balms which are just as nice.
This is an awesome balm if you have super dry lips like I do. It’s definitely comparable to the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask and for roughly the same size, it’s $10 cheaper. Love it!
I have gone through so many of these little sample sizes of the KVD Tattoo Liner. I grab them everytime I’m placing a Sephora order and they are a reward or a free sample with a coupon code. I love everything about this liner and find it SO easy to use, even with my hooded eyes that can be super difficult to do wings with.
This is a good tinted brow gel, but considering that it’s the same price as Benefit Gimme Brow (which I looooove– even more so now that they have expanded the shade range a bit and there’s a pretty perfect match for me!), I’d rather buy that instead.
Have you tried any of these products?
