I love the concept of seasonal capsule wardrobes. Capsule wardrobes in general have always appealed to me, but I find the idea of a year round one to be too restricting. I put together my first capsule wardrobe last spring (see it here >> Casual Chic Spring Capsule Wardrobe) and couldn’t believe how many different outfits I could make out of the same 28 pieces of clothing.
This casual chic fall capsule wardrobe has been put together using a lot of the same pieces as my spring capsule wardrobe, because ideally, I don’t want to go out and buy an entirely new set of clothing for every season. It’s expensive, time-consuming and wasteful to forever be buying tons of new clothes, so keep that in mind when you’re curating your own fall capsule wardrobe!
How to create your own fall capsule wardrobe
Planning a capsule wardrobe can be surprisingly difficult when starting from scratch, so I’ve gone ahead and done most of the work for you! Use my casual chic fall capsule wardrobe as a guide and then put your own style spin on it. Here’s how you can make it your own:
- Identify which items you already own (feel free to change up the color scheme for something that is more you- just be sure that the colors you choose work together well)
- Identify which items you don’t already own and don’t have an alternative for
- Fill in the blanks!
Outerwear
Let’s talk staples! No matter the season, I will always have a utility jacket, denim jacket and leather jacket in my wardrobe. The only outerwear I ever really rotate are coats. During fall, I like having a warmer piece that I can wear on chillier days.

Sweaters
I live in cardigans and sweaters this time of year- you really can’t go wrong with them. I tend to buy these in classic, neutral tones that pair well with everything. The cozier the better!
shop my picks: turtleneck sweater // knit sweater // long cardigan // casual sweater
Tops
Every capsule wardrobe has to have a handful of basic tees and camis. They are the backbone of SO many outfits for me, so I like to have a couple casual pieces and a couple dressier pieces to mix and match. I try to tie in a few other fun tops with simple patterns or coordinating colors to change things up a bit.
shop my picks: basic cami // lace trim cami // striped long sleeve // blouse // flannel shirt // black tee // grey tee // burgundy tee // long sleeve tie front top // graphic tee
Bottoms
If you need me, I’ll be spending all of fall in denim or leggings, haha. I’m not a huge dress girl, so I only added one to my fall capsule wardrobe and it’s very casual (though it could easily be dressed up with tights and ankle boots).
shop my picks: faux leather leggings // belted utility pants // ripped jeans // medium wash jeans // long sleeve dress
Shoes
I can’t recommend this exact pair of knee-high leather boots enough. I’ve owned them for probably four years now and wear them constantly during spring, fall and winter. They’re so comfy and make an outfit look put together without even trying. I love a pair of ankle boots with a little heel for when I’m feeling fancy and the rest of the shoes are just everyday go-tos for me.
