Honestly, the “natural” section on the Sephora site used to be pretty BS. It was full of greenwashy brands and products that were by no means clean or natural. Thankfully, Sephora recently revisited this and created a “Clean at Sephora” seal, which means that products given this seal are free of sulfates (SLS and SLES), parabens, formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan and triclocarban. In addition to this, all products with the Clean at Sephora seal are made with less than 1% synthetic fragrance (and again, the synthetic fragrances are phthalate-free).
Personally, I think the Clean at Sephora seal is a great step in the right direction and definitely helps consumers make better choices when it comes to purchasing beauty products. While there are other ingredients I’d like to see included in the “free of” list (like BHT), it’s definitely a good start. There are still greenwashy brands included in this section, but instead of having ALL of their products listed in the “clean/natural” section of the site like they used to be, only the products that get the Clean at Sephora seal are listed- which, as someone who avoids specific bad ingredients rather than everything that isn’t 100% natural, I’m very pleased with this!
In celebration of the new seal, I wanted to do a round-up of the tried and true best of clean beauty at Sephora so you know where to start shopping!

What are your favorite products with the Clean at Sephora seal?
Marta Rivera says
I need to check these products out. The older I get the more concerned I am with what’s going on my face. Thanks for the advice.
Chelsea says
Absolutely! I would definitely check out the Drunk Elephant line if you have aging concerns :)
Marina says
I love Sephora, unfortunately here in Italy we don’t have the same products and this gets me mad, ‘cos there are so many brands I’d love to try.
Chelsea says
Oh noooo! That would be so frustrating. I do really like that the EU cosmetics regulations are much more strict than the US or Canada, though. I wish our beauty industry was more regulated so we didn’t have to HAVE sections like this on sites… let it all be clean! ;)
Jaime says
I love that they did this – totally a step in the right direction!
Allison says
I had no idea so much stuff was in regular makeup! I guess I need to pay better attention to these things! Thanks for the list.

It’s honestly crazy when you really look into it! I wrote a more in depth post about bad ingredients in beauty products a while back if you’re interested in learning more: https://www.oliveandivyblog.com/bad-ingredients-beauty-products-list/
Chelsea says
Agreed! Makes me SO happy.
Courtney Byers says
Oh wow this is such a great post! I have been really interested in clean products lately. Thank you so much for putting these together.

I am bookmarking this! I didn’t even know Sephora had a “clean” seal. I tend to stick to natural products and I love that I don’t have to do tons of research now trying to figure out which ones are the best. Thanks so much!
