Benefit was the brand that got me out of solely using drugstore products and into higher end makeup. I have always been a sucker for a good deal and their value sets are what initially lured me in. I actually still have some deluxe sized Benefit products from all the sets I bought years ago, haha. The value sets were definitely a gateway to my now full blown makeup addiction, and I would say that at this point, I’ve almost tried all of Benefit’s products. While I love so many of them, there are definitely a few that are real standouts for me!
First things first- what Benefit may be most known and loved for- their mascaras. They have a few different mascaras, but the two that meet (and even exceed) my extremely high mascara expectations are the Benefit Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara and Benefit They’re Real Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara.
They’re Real is what first sold me on spending the extra $$ on a high end mascara, because it was the first mascara to ever give me lashes that were actually long enough to see! I quickly fell in love with Roller Lash after it was first released as well, as it gives me gorgeous length and curl that lasts all day long. I highly, highly recommend trying either (or both!) of these mascaras if you are looking for length! ULTA has a Benefit Most Wanted Mascara set right now which is an awesome way to try out both of these before buying full sizes.
It took me a long time to try Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel, but now that I have, there’s no going without. I have very sparse, light brows, and while filling them with a pencil makes them look 1000x better, Gimme Brow is like the cherry on top to making them look natural. It bulks up the brow hairs I do have just enough to give my brows a natural, thicker look.
Benefit is releasing a whole new brow collection this month and I seriously CANNOT wait! I am not sure if the new Gimme Brow being released has been reformulated or not (though reviews say it does seem a little different- better different!), but it does have an additional shade added to the lineup which is great. I’m hoping to get my hands on some of these brow products when they’re released, so I’ll be sure to keep you updated on how everything goes!
Alright, onto the face. Benefit has several different primers, but my hands down favorite (and one of my all-time favorite primers in general) is The POREfessional Face Primer. It has a super silky, lightweight texture and it fills in pores, really helps to smooth everything out and keeps my makeup in place all day.
Two other faves that I found via value sets are their highlighters, which have been around since way before highlighters were trendy. Benefit High Beam is a dewy, satin-pink liquid highlighter and Benefit Watt’s Up! is a luminous champagne cream to powder highlighter. They are both fairly subtle and really give you that lit-from-within, natural glow.
I’ll be honest, it took me a few tries to not hate the Benefit tints. I have always liked them on my lips, but they just never worked out on my cheeks- I’d apply it and it’d stain my cheeks in little streaks that wouldn’t blend out. Turns out, I was taking too long to blend it out and once I realized that I had to blend as soon as applying (ie- apply on one cheek, blend immediately, then do the other cheek and blend immediately), I started getting the beautiful flush that I’d seen in other people’s photos after using these!
Out of the four different Benefit cheek & lip stains, Chachatint is definitely my favorite. It’s a sheer orangey-apricotty shade (like my color describing skills? haha) that looks beautiful on both the cheeks and lips.
A little branch off of the Benefit cheek & lip stains are the balms, which also come in four shades. I have only tried one thus far, Posie Balm, which is a gorgeous universally flattering poppy pink shade with a satin finish. They have a nice amount of color to them and they’re super hydrating. I definitely want to pick this one up in the Chacha shade as well!
If the product I’m about to tell you about had never been released, I’d have to be separately listing several more items right now, because Benefit’s powder products are absolute must-haves. Luckily for us beauty lovers, though, Benefit came up with the great idea to release a limited edition palette that contains five of their best-selling blushes and bronzers- ALL full size- for only $58 ($75CAD).
Included in the Benefit Cheekathon Palette:
- Benefit Dandelion Blush
- Benefit Hoola Bronzer (my everyday bronzer that I also use for contouring)
- Benefit Rockateur Blush
- Benefit Dallas Blush
- Benefit Coralista Blush (LOVE this shade for summer)
This palette is a $145 value and is limited edition, so I recommend purchasing ASAP as it’s definitely something that you will regret missing out on! It’s available at both Sephora and ULTA (ULTA also has an awesome Benefit 4-piece gift with purchase until June 25th or until supplies last).
If you’re new to Benefit, I would definitely check out some of their value sets. They’re always changing, so if you see one you’re really interested in, grab it! Here are some of my current faves:
- Best of Benefit Customizable Brow & Lash Kit (this one is such good value!)
- Benefit Dandelion Wishes Baby-Pink Makeup Set
- Benefit Most Wanted Mascara & Eyeliner Set
- Benefit Do The Hoola Beyond Bronzer Kit
- Benefit Operation Pore-Proof Kit
