Subscription boxes have been an amazing way for me to dive into the green beauty world and get a taste for what products I like, and I have a few different that I want to review over the next couple of weeks. The first, and definitely one of the absolute best, green beauty subscription box I want to introduce you to is Beauty Heroes!
Beauty Heroes calls itself a “beauty discovery service” (which I much prefer the sound of over “subscription box”) and their tagline is “Use Less. Love More. Hero On!” Every month, they deliver one hero product (something that meets their amazing ingredient standards) and a smaller sized sidekick product, so you can get a better idea of what the brand has to offer.
As soon as I discovered their service and chatted on the phone with the lovely founder of Beauty Heroes, Jeannie, I knew this would be a perfect fit for my lifestyle changes. After being left feeling totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of consumerism I experienced last year, using less and loving more is most definitely my goal for 2017.
This month’s Beauty Hero is Maya Chia’s The Super Couple Astaxanthin + Chia Ultra Luxe Face Oil. A bit of a mouthful, but most certainly an ultra luxe product that I am so happy to have discovered! I have heard several people rave about Maya Chia before, so I had high hopes- and this face oil exceeded all of my expectations.
The Maya Chia Super Couple combines supercritical chia seed oil with astaxanthin from micro-algae (which contains over 65x the antioxidant levels of vitamin C… whaaaaat!) to create a super high-potency serum. The gorgeous orange oil is meant to instantly revitalize dry, dull skin, visibly repair and prevent skin damage, and hydrate for supple, glowing skin.
Here are the superpower ingredients and their qualities that make up the Maya Chia Super Couple (from the Beauty Heroes site):
Chia – nourishing, repairing
Astaxanthin – protecting, anti-aging
Jasmine – repairing
Rose – nourishing, repairing
Sandalwood – firming, repairing
Rosewood – protecting, anti-aging
Carrot Seed – brightening, protecting
Lavender – anti-bacterial, repairing
Cistus – brightening, repairing
Frankincense – brightening, repairing
Myrrh – anti-inflammatory, repairing
Chamomile – anti-inflammatory
Oh man, does it ever deliver! I’m not sure I’ve ever used a serum or oil that has given me such immediate results. My skin is particularly dry and dull this time of year, and none of my usual oils, creams or serums seem to make much of a difference. The Super Couple, however, totally brought my skin back to it’s “normal” state. It eliminated the dry patches I was experiencing, made it feel so much more hydrated (all day long as well) and gave it a bit of glow back, all within the less than couple of weeks that I’ve been using this for!
I use this both morning and night (because I feel like I can never be without this again during the super dry skin season, haha). In the morning, I apply it after toner and before moisturizer. It does take a little bit to fully sink into the skin, so give yourself some time between your skincare and your makeup for it to really absorb. In the evening, I apply this after any other serums, then apply the Maya Chia Waterless Wonder Balm on top of any areas prone to dryness (I will talk more about this product below), and follow with my usual night cream.
The sidekick to the Maya Chia Super Couple is the Maya Chia Supercritical Chia Waterless Wonder Balm. This is an all-purpose balm made up of supercritical chia seed oil, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, sunflower oil, beeswax, tocopherol (non-GMO vitamin E), and 2% essentials oils and botanical extracts.
This balm turned out to be quite a nice surprise for me. I wasn’t too excited about it at first because I figured it was just another balm, but it’s really not. It works SO well. It doesn’t at all have that thick petroleum jelly feel to it (which I’m not the biggest fan of) and it’s not so thin that it disappears in 30 seconds. It really works to heal dryness and lock in moisture. I’ve been using it for my hands, my cuticles, dry areas of my face, the ends of my hair, my lips… seriously, just anywhere there is dryness creeping in. It works for everything! I absolutely LOVE this and am so impressed with it.
I am SO excited about partnering with Beauty Heroes for the next couple of months after having tried this month’s beauty discovery box. They feature such incredible brands that are backed by even more incredible products and ingredients, and I’m stoked to find more products like these that I know I am going to have a long-term relationship with!
If you want to receive this month’s Beauty Heroes box that features two amazing Maya Chia products (which has just under $100 value), then sign up before January 20th! Their subscription service works in 3-month, 6-month and 12-month terms, and you almost get the full value of the whole THREE month subscription ($115 for 3 months) in your first box, so it’s obviously worth every penny.
To sweeten the deal even more, Beauty Heroes subscribers receive an exclusive 15% discount (with no purchase minimum) on the entire Beauty Heroes store. They carry a ton of well-known green beauty brands, and if you’ve ever shopped green beauty before, you know that discounts are hard to come by because of the quality of the products, so this discount is a real treat!
I can’t recommend Beauty Heroes, or this month’s Maya Chia hero product and sidekick specifically, enough- so go sign up before January 20th and try these beauties for yourself!

I can’t recommend it enough! And I totally agree. There is so much junk being put into skincare these days, no wonder so many people are having sensitivity issues! Definitely check them out, and check out Beauty Heroes in general because they offer amazing products every month that are GOOD for you and your skin! xo
