Let’s face it, life can and will be stressful at times, no matter your circumstances. While I think that for the most part I lead a relatively stress-free life, there are days where I am facing work deadlines, or am totally wound up from my puppy being a holy terror all day, or my anxiety has kicked in full force that day for who knows what reason, and I just need to unwind at the end of the day. Regardless of the cause, here are five ways to pamper yourself when you’re stressed that always work for me!
1. Take a bubble bath
It’s amazing how much a hot bubble bath can fix. It is always the first thing I do when I am feeling particularly stressed and wound up about something, and more often than not, I feel 500x better at the end of it. I like to throw in some detox bath salts and a scented bubble bath or bath bomb, and just relax for an hour. Top it off with a glass of wine and some Netflix, and all is right in the world for a bit.
2. Take some time for skincare
Whether you take fifteen minutes to do a face mask or you take five seconds to spritz a facial mist over your skin, taking that time for yourself to refresh and revitalize really does help. I do a face mask every couple of nights and really enjoy those few minutes to myself. I also always keep a facial mist at my desk to revive my skin throughout the day- bonus points if it has a super fresh scent to it like this Tarte one.
3. Put on some makeup
You know when you’ve been sick for a few days and just sit around wallowing in your own self pity and sickness, and then you go take a shower and put on some makeup and feel a million times better? I find the same thing works for me when I’m stressed. Obviously I am a huge lover of makeup, so this won’t necessarily apply to everyone if makeup isn’t your thing, but taking the time to do my makeup makes me feel like a million bucks and puts me in a new frame of mind. Plus, red lipstick is always a nice confidence boost!
4. Paint your nails
Having freshly painted nails gives me a giant confidence boost- I don’t know what it is about having unpainted or chipped nails that makes me feel frumpy, but I feel so good when they are looking great. While going to a salon for a mani or pedi is super relaxing, it’s not always an affordable option and doing your own nails at home can be just as nice. Also, painting your nails is basically forced relaxation, because you literally can’t do anything until they dry… perfect time to catch up on that reality TV!
5. Get those good smells going
I am a huge believer in scent (does that sound silly? haha). Seriously though, smelling something good can change my mood quickly and drastically. Light a candle, diffuse some essential oils, put on your favorite perfume, or- in a pinch- apply a good smelling deodorant. I always have a candle burning or oils diffusing at my desk during the day because it really elevates my mood and keeps my mind sharp.
Secret® Outlast Xtend™ takes another stress off my shoulders- I never have to worry about whether I’m still smelling fresh after a long day (amen to smelling good, am I right?). It has stronger wetness protection than other leading deodorant brands and has 48-hour odor protection, meaning I definitely have no concerns about having to reapply throughout the day.
